I just read this article and it’s just genius.

Facebook is doing a lot to get people connected to the internet and try to share the benefit of sharing all information available. Maybe Facebook helped younger people to learn how to socialize online simply because those kids never learned how to play outdoors with
friends in the real world. Nowadays you can built your own circle of friends and decide who can and cannot hear you talk.
This tendency is mainly due to the internet revolution at this age but I believe we have very lazy genes too. I suspect those two may also be connected. Unfortunately, because we don’t get out much to interact with people, only few of us can learn about our personal
qualities. We certainly like to minimize the work done in everything make everything reusable and provided at ease. Even relationship statuses and the types of things we share has to be based on a template. I can see why people think the computer generation lacks
creativity; everything seems to be pre-programmed. They have a valid point there but I don’t agree with that in a general perspective. Here’s why.
The technology world is somehow infamous for its sorcerers and whisperers in advertising. Can you think of any other profession to better spread the word, faster? everyone has a bit of an advertiser in them. Because human beings all have a hidden ego at work. This is what makes platforms like Facebook and Google+ groundbreaking. It is a whole different level where people are actually making money when you talk to a friend or socialize. The more you share, the more you earn. It’s a new lifestyle. Some people think we ought to spend more time ‘offline’ with our friends and family more often. I’m sorry to disappoint you, but no one can change the world back to the way it was a 100 years ago. Besides, I don’t even think it’s bad for the human evolution!
Look where innovators are taking the world: If even poor people can connect to the internet they automatically have access to information on just about anything. Freedom of speech and it will help with their personal development as well as their social awareness. And don’t just think Facebook, people will be able to conduct all necessities like banking or registration tasks online. Therefore it will also improve the quality of their daily life. Ok, you could have dietary or mobility concerns about a person’s well being if you are stuck behind a screen all day. But this only happens in big wealthy cities where everything is crammed up. I say parents have to adjust their meal plan or activities accordingly and switch to a healthier lifestyle altogether.
Anyway, my main point is that it could be unsettling for us 80’s kids to think the world is becoming more of a ‘hooked online’ kind of place to live. That’s very true that the change so rapid and it’s ok to feel threatened by it. But please don’t. As this is exactly the
same feeling as many of the previous generations saw in the younger ones. They didn’t (or couldn’t) stop the evolution, did they? Everyone made more money or enjoyed a better availability in communication and sharing (or both!). It really helps to see the better in the current developments rather than to try and resist the change.
If we have the privilege to, for example; see a distant relative on video when we wish, then why shouldn’t the rest of the world to benefit from these pleasant experiences? Moreover, why should the young be restrained from such availability? It is – as it should be – a brave new world out there!
